Here are a few lettering pieces that I decided to animate using Aftereffects and Photoshop:
These pieces were animated using Photoshop's timeline
(with images generated using Illustrator's blend tool.) 
I then re-animated the piece using AfterEffects.
This piece was drawn in Illustrator and animated in AfterEffects.
